It is recommended to start with a fresh new filter. Add about 10-15 drops to a zip lock bag, place the filter in the bag, and work the oil into the filter. Remove the filter and place it in a paper towel and squeeze out the excess oil. The filter is now ready to use.
*A used filter can be cleaned using Dawn dish soap and air dried, then re-oiled, but it is not recommended to do this more than once as it is extremely difficult to clean all fine dust and dirt out of the filter.
